I couldn’t be more excited about the launch of The Pornographer’s Daughter at Strand Book Store, a New York City institution in the heart of Greenwich Village. On Friday, September 26 at 7pm in the historic Rare Book Room, I’ll be discussing Deep Throat's impact on American pop culture with my friends Eric Danville, author of The Complete Linda Lovelace and The Heavy Metal Book of Lists, and Senior Editor at Penthouse Forum; and Robert Rosen, author of Beaver Street: A History of Modern Pornography and Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon. Dr. Belisa Vranich will moderate the evening. Her books include Get a Grip and Breathe.
Belisa is a longtime friend from my National Mental Health Association days and Robert and Eric were early supporters of The Pornographer’s Daughter. They have all been a great source of inspiration in my journey to publish my book and doing this panel with them will be a blast.
Now just a little bit of history about this event venue. Strand Book Store opened in 1927 and is one of the largest independent bookstores in the U.S. still thriving today despite our e-book culture. The Rare Book Room is home to a collection of first edition books you won’t find anywhere else. The Strand carries over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books and has played host to our most popular and celebrated authors of our day. All I can say is “wow,” to be presenting in the same place as Senator Elizabeth Warren, Joyce Carol Oates, Walter Mosley and Robert Pinsky is such a thrill.
If you’re in New York this Friday, stop by the event. Wine will be served.
I would love to know if you’ll attend, RVSP here.
While learning more about Strand Book Store I found this awesome video, B*tches in Bookshops (a Jay Z/Kanye West parody) performed by La Shea Delaney (@lashea_delaney) & Annabelle Quezada (@annabelleqv). Check it out, it’s a great twist on an old past time and these ladies seem to really love to reading.
